Leveled Literacy Intervention

 Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) consists of a series of planned lessons designed to provide supplementary instruction to first, second, and third  grade children who are finding it difficult to learn to read and write. Teachers first use a systematic assessment to determine children’s instructional reading level, and then form groups of three children who are reading at approximately the same level. Teachers then implement daily 30-minute lessons that incorporate a variety of instructional approaches, each of which is supported by research (see Research Base for Leveled Literacy Intervention below).

Kindergarten Early Literacy Intervention

Kindergarten teachers are charged with a common task-to bring children with vastly varied experiences in their preschool years towards some group performances in the classroom. ( Clay, 2005). Reading Specialists at FPS will begin working with kindergarten students at mid-year who are having difficulty learning early literacy skills.  Lessons will focus on learning letter names and sounds, blending sounds to form words, early reading behaviors such as 1-1 matching, left to right progression across print with a return sweep, locating known and unknown words, grade appropriate high frequency words and developing oral languge skills.
